BLUELINE BUSSES, THE OTHER STORY

Nearly each day, there is some more or less severe or mortal accident with one of the Delhi busses. In the press than described as speeding up murder busses. Of course the busses are in a status no European country would allow them on the road and of course the drivers or not the most educated …. For 6000 Rps (approx. 120 Euro per month nobody should expect a very intelligent, moral impeccable and with reflexes as Michael Schumacher). But there are also so-called speeding up murder trucks as well as there are cars, killing people.
So obviously the reason is somewhere else, the reason is the total disorganization and lack of discipline but also control of the traffic.
It starts with the sidewalks. Indian sidewalks are good for a lot of things. You can plant big trees or rampant bushes on it; cows may use it as a dirt track. The pavement is also the preferred spot for small business as bicycle repair, shoe polishing, mom-and-pop store. And during the night as public latrine and even as last deathbed. To walk on it is not very suitable, therefore most Indians do not even make an attempt to use it and walk on the street. The use of zebra crossings is unknown and an Indian respecting himself, does not care about separation of lanes as long as they are not so high he can’t overcome them. That is already the reason #1 one for the accidents. But there is more, it is the mixture making the danger. Slow pedestrian, a bundle of unnecessary bicycle rickshaw, driving zickzack, cutting curves and with a swirl to the wrong side of the street, scooters and motorcycles looking for the smallest gap to jump in it.

Trucks in deplorable conditions almost always overloaded not just by 20% but by a factor of 2 or so, all this together with the unreasonable use of the horns give the right mixture for deathly accidents. During daytime the only goal of the total ignorant of any traffic rules, is to be at the first place at any traffic light or other mostly self- created traffic jam. Of course if the left lane is already completely filled with cars and in the empty spots with scooters and bikes, despite the white line on the street, the right lane will be taken, as a result now also on the other side there is a traffic jam. Sometimes I really wonder how people can be so stubborn and sometimes I really wonder how people can be so stubborn jam just to win 2 m.
Under these conditions there is no need for so-called criminal blue line busses, it is the system, the tumultuary of the traffic and lack of the will to follow traffic rules being responsible for the fatal casualties. And the police? You may ask. Well sometimes I see some control on helmets, but I never saw that someone taking the wrong lane on the highway was stopped and prosecuted. Only yesterday I saw 2 man on one scooter, the man in the back had a bundle of at least 10 PVC tubes under his arm, each with a length of at least 5 m. Police stopped the scooter, the driver was asked to put his helmet. No further actions were taken and both continued in peace their trajectory. If now a bus, just touch the in the muddle of the traffic and the scooter falls of course once again officially it will be the speeding – up criminal bluelines, but for me it will be the police or the government allowing the infraction of the most essential traffic rules.

POVERTY

23 % of the Indian population as an income of less than 12 rupees ( 0.21 euro) per day !!!
Even in India you hardly can buy anything with 12 rupees. These data are based on governemental figures for the period 2004- 2005.
395 Mio of workers or 86% of Indian working population work in the unorganized sector, wich means without any social security.

200m far away of the spot where people are dying on the street you will find a bar allowing the luxury to have ice cubes in the toilet just to lower the smell, a luxus a bar in Europe will not allow itsself , being a waste of energy and money, for nothing

ENERGY SUPPLY - QUO VADIS

THE POWER CUTS IN DELHI (after all the capital) DO NOT STOP. TODAY IN GURGAON AT LEAST 10 POWER- CUTS. I don't mind too much, in the company and in the condominium where I live most of the time there are genset (= Diesel engines for power generation) . For most Indians in the area it means that they have to run on inveters (battery operated power supplies , able to convert the DC from the battery to AC, for most of the utilities available in household espessially the air- conditioning , without this live is nearly insupportable in Delhi and enviroment.
This means that a lot of private money get wasted , just because the governemental controlled power suppliers are not able to provide enough energy for the growing economical demands and the not unexpected growing population (not the slightest approach to reduce birth growth , beside a free vacation for the couples, being without kids after 3 years of marriage)
With the private money spent on big power generator sets for the bigger appartment blocks and all the inverters in private property, India would for sure have been able to take care of enough power generation plans to fullfill all the needs. But why spent money to the state if this dissapear in some leaks as the water does to over 50 % in some areas in the water supply.

It is amazing for me to see how Indian power suppliers follow the behaviour of their Western conterparts, obviously they don't see their special position. Now there is a big publicity campain of the wind power generators as eg VESTA to convince politicians to go for wind power gerator plants. But in the European power supply grid , the wind power generators are the first to be switched of at excessive energy (mostly the case) because they produce electricity at the highest cost (mainly invest cost and short live)

INDIAN IS FIGHTING THE SUN, IN A HOPELESS ATTEMPT BY USING SMALL AIR-CONDITIONING UNITS TO LOWER THE EFFECTS OF AN EXCESS OF ENERGY IN THEIR AMBIENT ENVIROMENT

THERE IS NOT A LACK OF ENERGY IN INDIA , THERE IS TOO MUCH AND THEREFORE WITH ALL MEANS WESTERN USE TO BALANCE THEIR LACK OF ENERGY INDIA TRIES TO DESTROY ITS EXCESS OF ENERGY.

THE STRONGEST POINT OF INDIAN'S ENERGY IS THE SUN, WHY NOT USE THE SUN INSTEAD OF FIGHTING AGAINST IT .

For me the best example is the recent house building politics of The Netherlands, having learned after year of fights against the sea, now the houses are build floating on the sea. (of coarse by an intelligent dikes and sluice system to prevent the houses for waves and abprubt rises)

Instead of just aping the energy policy of the WEST why not lets have Indian energy politics which should of course also include nuclear power plants. But why nut just start using the excess of energy by:

Develop sun collectors able to transfer the solar energy into cooling capacity by using heat exchanger or stirling pumps (both using a no other energy as coming directly from the sun.

Force new builders to install the low cost sun collectors as are already available on the market on each house (in some areas of China, not blessed by excessive energy as India you will see on top of each house)

Build-up solar energy power plants as is done in Germany and Spain , haveing only 50% of the solar impact over the year as compared to India.

Do not ape, do it the right Indian way , but doGermans get paid to put solar panels on their roofs.

TUGHLAQABAD & GHIYAS-UD-DIN TUGHLAQ TOMB

Recently I drove with my bicycle to Tughlaqabad.
I learned from older travel guides that Tughlaqabad, was taken over by monkeys. But this is not the case anymore, the monkeys moved to the lower parts of the rocks and are now dispersed along the street, whre they get food form the people passing-by.

The origin of the historic city of Tughlaqabad and the Tughlaqabad Fort goes to the
period of the Delhi Sultanate (AD 1191–1526). The Tughlaqs (AD 1321–1414) who
followed the Khiljis (AD 1290–1321) constructed the city of Tughlaqabad
and Tughlaqabad Fort.

History tell us that the foundation of Tughlaqabad was performed by,
the founder of the Tughlaq dynasty. Ghazi Malik once was a slave of Mubarak Khilji, the last Khilji sultan. One day, while walking in the area where the Tughlaqabad Fort is now
located, Ghazi Malik suggested to his master that the high rocks dominating the landscape would be an ideal site for building a fort. The Khilji sultan laughed at his slave and suggested that the slave build a fort there when he became a sultan. When Ghazi Malik, as Ghiyasud-din Tughlaq, founded the Tughlaq Dynasty in 1321, he did just that—Tughlaqabad .
The fort of Tughlaqabad was completed rapidly in a short span of four years (1321–
25). (I take this for na fairy tail, the dimensions are as such that even in modern India it would not be possible to finalize a building of these dimensions in 4 years) The fort’s massive walls and bastions (some as high as 15–30 m, built of
enormous blocks of stone and walls 10 m thick in places) rise the question how the construction was performed in a time without having machines.
Sultanate had to face a number of attacks from hoards of marauding, who
descended on it in waves from the north. During is reign Ghiyas-ud-din, had severe difficulties with raids of Mongols in order to counter the Mongol threat, repeatedly battled them and raised pyramids of enemy’s heads and used elephants to crush the captives to death. The skulls of the killed Mongol marauders were used in the construction material of this awesome fort. ( I did not see any skulls)

The end of Tughlaqabad was not brought about by any foreign invasion, but to the
curse of a Sufi Saint Nizam-ud-din. The quarrel between the the Sufi and
Ghiyas-ud-din Tughlaq started when Ghyas-ud-din did not allow his people to work for the saint on the construction of a baoli. This angered the saint and led to his famous prophecy “Hunuz Dilli dur ast” (Delhi is yet far away), for the sultan was then out in Bengal. He made another ominous reference to the sultan’s fort when he remarked “Ya rahe usar, ya basé Gujjar” (Either it remains deserted or be peopled by men of the Gujjar tribe). Both these prophecies proved true. Ghiyas-ud-din was killed at a place near Delhi when a shamiana (canopy, marquee) collapsed over him during a reception arranged by his son. The sultan could not reach Delhi alive. His successor chose to build his own fort
and deserted Tughlaqabad. It soon became a haunt for the Gujjars tending their cattle
within the abandoned fort of Ghiyas-ud-din.
It is generally believed that the death of Ghiyas-ud-din Tughlaq wasplotted by his son. One story describes that Muhammad bin Tughlaq (Ghiyas-ud-din’s son and successor) killed his father by building a false wooden balcony, which collapsed and killed Ghiyas-ud-din. The son murdered and ascended the throne of Delhi, thus making the prophecies of Saint Nizam-ud-din come true.
With the sultan's death, the city's short-lived glory to an abrupt end
In this devastated situation it now remains and Delhi government does not take actually any measures to improve. The earlier renovations I had the impression are done without plan and it seems to me that they destroy more of the original than to contribute to a reconstruction of this gigantic fort. How the city inside the fort was looking like will be a mystery forever.
When one enters the fort, the first impression are the guides lying half- sleepy around but than later a profound feeling of emptiness and leaving only cows and donkeys as companions.

TOMB OF GHIYAS-UD-DIN TUGHLAQ

On the southern side of the fort is a causeway that takes one across the (now) dry bed
of a lake to the tomb of Ghiyas-ud-din Tughlaq. The tomb was built by the ruler
himself and is enclosed in a private courtyard with fortified walls. The structure of this
simple but elegant building reminds one of the Alai Darwaza—an elegant gateway
built by the erstwhile Khilji ruler Ala-ud-din Khilji, near Qutab Minar, in his
endeavor to beautify the Qutab complex. The style of the tomb conforms to the Indo-
Islamic style of architecture, which was in vogue at that time and was the hallmark of
the buildings belonging to the period of the Delhi Sultanate.
